90-Day Boot Camp:
Apply the Lessons from the Research
Help shape the next book—and get a structured head start on your own “Who are you BECOMING?” journey.
Are you ready for a game-changer? Are you sure?
Thousands of uncommon leaders have contributed to the research for my next book. We started with a seemingly simple question: why do we give certain people permission to profoundly influence our lives and have distilled 4 paradoxical choices.
Now we're inviting a small group of leaders to take the next step: a 90-day Boot Camp focused on actually applying those lessons.
This is not a typical course. It’s a focused application laboratory. A "gym" or "weight room." You will test the ideas in real time, refine what works, and close the gap between knowing and doing. Your experience and feedback will directly influence the final book... and lives around the world!
At the same time, you will leave as a better person and leader. You'll also build priceless connections.
Join our exclusive inaugural cohort. Apply today!!!
300+ interviews with world-class leaders from all walks of life. Four paradoxical choices. Will you join a select cohort of leaders in Phase II of the research? What if this is the game-changer you've been looking for?

The Servant Leader Project
4 Challenges of a Servant Leader
This is NOT for the faint of heart.
4 intentional choices emerged from our research of "deeply authentic Servant Leaders" - over and over and over again, these Servant Leaders choose to:
- Love (the Verb)Â - Agape. Selfless Love. Love of Choice:Â to will the good of the other as other. Choose to want & act on what's good for those you serve both now and in the future... a lot harder than liking them or being nice, feeds the rest of the choices. Improving at this one is a lot like joining a gym with a world-class trainer. You will make progress, but it will demand a struggle. Radical affect on engagement, ownership, accountability, innovation, trust, turnover, life!
- Serve Needs, not Wants - Sometimes I need a reality check, even though I may not want a reality check! Sometimes I need encouragement, guidance, feedback, help, to be allowed to own a decision and possible fall flat on my face. This choice takes a serious combination of wisdom and will... the wisdom to be aware of unique individual needs and the will to take effective action to truly serve that need. Wisdom and Will! People don't tell us what they really need. Quite often they don't know. So how do Servant Leaders figure this out?
- Serve a Cause that's Bigger than You - "It's not about you" might be the the most repeated phrase from all of our Servant Leader conversations. One leader put it this way: "I'm in it for the outcome, not the income!" She works with at risk youth across the country, developing them into Servant Leaders. Hunger and Humility. Hunger to do something great. Hunger to deliver. Humility to say "we're not there yet" or "I don't have all the answers."
- Pay a Deeply Personal Price - This price shows up in many ways, some obvious and some rather subtle. For example, there is a price to letting someone else struggle - especially when it's one of your own children, a close friend, or someone you hired. The price of difficult conversations, of helping someone surpass your results, of allowing another to sacrifice when you can see their pain.
Can YOU become a better Servant Leader? One of the main motivators for our research: can Servant Leadership be intentionally nurtured, developed, infused into a community / family / business / school / culture? If it can be, how do we do it? What if we could double the number of Servant Leaders in your company or community? What kind of ripple effect could that create?
Among the most powerful lessons learned from these Servant Leaders: we all need good people to do life with. Walking with other Servant Leaders is transformational. We also need to be nourished, challenged, inspired. We need hard things.Â
Struggle is not an option. It's a biological requirement.
Virtually every "Uncommon" Leader we've interviewed pointed out 2 factors in their growth: People and Process. They had at least one person who raised the bar. And they had a process (many of the processes were quite unique) for taking their Leadership to the next level.
How do Leaders become "Uncommon" Leaders?
- People who make them Positively Uncomfortable - A parent, friend, colleague, or group that raises the bar and has those uncomfortable conversations.
- Rhythm or Routine - A process that works, works for them, and that they work. Most leaders described a very simple routine that helped them stay on track or get back on track.
I want to invite you to be a part of Phase II of our research. BUT, it is definitely not for everyone.
Most people never become who they could be because they never let go of who they used to be.
NOT for the faint of heart. It will transform your life forever. But it will be hard. And it will take great courage. There will be a price tag. It's certainly not for everyone. Are you up for it?
There will be a cost. If you're not serious about growing in the 4 areas described above, please do not apply. We only have 15 openings for this series.
First 10 spots at $497, final 10 at $997 for this exclusive cohort.

The Phase II Process
People. Principles. Process. If you look at world-class leadership development (whether it's the way MLK and Lincoln developed their speaking skills or the way Mother Teresa and Gandhi developed their ability to demonstrate their love of people) you find that we all need a simple process that actually works.
1) We need good people to do life with. People who will encourage, inspire and challenge us.
2) We need reminders and reality checks.
3) Process supporting principles. Tools and strategies that help us become who we can be -AND- can be passed on to the people we coach, mentor or develop.
Your next step, should you accept the challenge: APPLY to be a part of this unique and exclusive journey. We will get together regularly, initially in a 60 minute conversation every other week. We will have a leadership challenge to focus on between these conversations. We will share lessons learned, best practices, and help each other to take our leadership to the next level. The process will be modified and improved by this initial cohort.
Dates, timing & logistics will be designed around the initial cohort or your organizational needs. This process will be built around your busy schedule and culture.

4 Choices
The right thing and the good thing are rarely the easy thing. We found a consistency among "deeply authentic Servant Leaders" - they choose to care about people. They choose to get to know the people in their lives so well that they are able to recognize authentic needs. They choose to exercise the courage and creativity to serve those needs. They serve a cause that's bigger than them. They choose to pay a deeply personal price.
For example, one of our Servant Leader interviews worked with both Jack Welch and Mother Teresa. Jim described Mother Teresa looking at him, putting her hand on his shoulder, and describing the loneliness that she saw in the United States. She said, "You fed the hungry and visited the sick here in Calcutta. The poverty of the West is a deep loneliness. Will you feed that hunger when you return to the United States?" Jim has since returned the favor ten-fold. He recently asked me to start a cohort for parents who are hungry for good people to do life with, hungry for meaningful connection, hungry for ideas on how to become better parents. Together, we are taking these principles to parents and the response has been humbling. Jim put his hand on my shoulder just a few days ago and said, "Will you feed this hunger in other parents?"
