MLK's 4 Questions

MLK's last prophetic words...

He knew the price he would pay for serving, yet he still signed up. The night before he was killed, King spoke at a church just a few blocks from the Lorraine Motel. These prophetic words concluded that famous last public speech:

"Well, I don't know what will happen now. We've got some difficult days ahead. But it really doesn't matter with me now, because I've been to the mountaintop.

And I don't mind.

Like anybody, I would like to live a long life. Longevity has its place. But I'm not concerned about that now. I just want to do God's will. And He's allowed me to go up to the mountain. And I've looked over. And I've seen the Promised Land. I may not get there with you. But I want you to know tonight, that we, as a people, will get to the promised land!

And so I'm happy, tonight.

I'm not worried about anything.

I'm not fearing any man!

Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord!!"

I spent a day at the Lorraine Motel, reflecting on Dr. King's life and legacy. There were 2 books in his suitcase the day he was killed... books MLK wrote. I somehow didn't even know that he had written books. I had to read those books. I had to learn more about what influenced his actions.

Throughout that day, 4 questions jumped out:

1. Who are your role models?
2. Why? (Why do you give them permission to have influence in your life?)
3. What do you really know about their story?
4. How will you let their example affect your life?
